DESSERT RECIPE:
Molasses Spice Cookies
 

1 1/4-cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2-cup shortening
1/4-cup margarine
2-tbsp molasses
1-tbsp milk
1-tbsp vanilla
1-egg
2 1/4-cups all-purpose flour
1-tsp cinnamon
1-tsp salt
3/4-tsp baking soda
1/2-tsp ground cloves
1/2-tsp nutmeg
1-cup coarsely chopped pecans
Granulated sugar
Molasses Spice Cookies

Combine brown sugar, shortening, margarine, molasses, milk, and vanilla in a large bowl
Beat with an electric mixer at medium speed until well blended
Beat the egg into the mixture
Combine flour, cinnamon, salt, baking soda, cloves and nutmeg
Mix into creamed mixture just until blended
Stir in pecans
Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 1 hour
Keep chilled until ready to use
Preheat oven to 375*F
Shape the dough into 1-inch balls
Roll in granulated sugar
Place 3-inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet
Bake one baking sheet at a time for 8-10 minutes for chewy cookies and 11-13 minutes for crisp cookies
DO NOT OVERBAKE
Cool 2-minutes on baking sheet
Remove cookies to cool completely on wire racks

Makes about 3 dozen cookies
